JANE GREER
I was discouraged by my parents from taking art in school so did my ‘A’ level independently and from an early age attended regular painting and life drawing courses. When living on the edge of London these including fabulous courses at Tate Modern, The Royal Academy and the National Portrait Gallery.
Brunel University’s Art Centre, which was on my doorstep had world class inspirational painters such as Gideon Rubin and Alejandro Ospina as tutors. George Mogg the curator of the Beldam Gallery, who now works at the Courtauld was a mentor and especially encouraging. With another Hillingdon artist I had the first exhibition at the new purpose built gallery and my work was purchased for the university and the London Borough of Hillingdon.
Luckily when studying for my MA in Contemporary German Studies I was able to focus on East and West German artists and was particularly inspired by Gerhard Richter and Anselm Kiefer.
For several years I enjoyed selling my paintings in the hustle and bustle of the London Art Market scene - it was an exhilarating and rewarding time.
My paintings have been auctioned for Shelter Wales and been sold at MOMA Wales and the Welsh Contemporary Art Exhibition in London. They are in public and private collections and featured in the West London catalogue of paintings in the public domain.
My work is now evolving from large oil paintings to smaller painting in earth pigments but common themes run through them - how we are transformed with time and are constantly editing our memories, sometimes by chance revealing elements of our former selves.
