GLEIDE REID
Gleide Reid learnt sewing from her mother, a designer and stylist in Brazil, where Gleide grew up, and by the age of eight had learnt how to make her own clothes.
In the early eighties she met a handsome Englishman in Brazil and then married him after moving to the UK following which she had a family of her own, yet her love of sewing and home furnishings never diminished.
She made all the curtains, cushions and lampshades for their new home herself, while bringing up her three children (for whom she also made clothes) and for 23 years held events to raise thousands for Cancer Research.
Gleide then embarked on an interior design course at the local college after which she became self-employed working as an interior designer for a variety of hotels, private schools and private clients to determine their look and style.
10 years ago the family moved to Oxford and Gleide began making soft furnishings for well-known people such Annie Sloan the chalk paint creator in Oxford, as well as Liscious interiors in Jericho, the Curtain Shop in Summertown and also private clients.
These private clients coveted her and her immaculate needlework, but Gleide had always dreamt of opening her own shop.
She began by renting space in the Antiques On High Centre on Oxford High Street for seven years, and more recently moved to her own premises, Gleide Home Decor in Woodstock, opening on Oxford Street in 2016.
She sources her dazzling artefacts by scouring antique fairs, auction houses, charity shops and house clearances.
Gleide Home Decor also provides the perfect base for her home furnishing and dressmaking skills.
