MARY BLACKSHAW

Mary, otherwise known as ‘BaaBaa Blackshaw’, is an illustrator and paper cut designer.

Taking inspiration from outsider art, folklore and fairytale, Mary’s work inhabits a space between play and storytelling.

Mary enjoys working with natural materials, creating her own inks, paints, and pastels from found objects. She often uses photoshop to create her final pieces.

Mary is inspired by the work of picture book artists Raymond Briggs, Jan Pienkowski, and Brian Wildsmith and artists Ruth Asawa, Alfred Wallis, and Cecilia Vicuna.

Mary has recently won a commission to design and paint an ox sculpture for Ox Trail 2024 to raise money for Sobell house hospice. OxTrail will be a vibrant and family-friendly art trail taking over Oxford this year.
