JULES GREGORY

Having been a professional portrait photographer since 1985, it wasn’t until 2016 that Jules decided to start taking pictures for himself! He has found it cathartic, therapeutic, and necessary, and a wonderful experience to create personal images once again - a visual release - something that he hasn’t done since his student days back in the early ‘80s. He studied photography and graphic design.

Jules likes to capture images that are all around us, yet are not obvious, often banal, and generally overlooked - there is art everywhere, and by working predominantly with a macro lens, he strives to create pictures with a personal bias towards the abstract or pattern. “To find a picture within the most mundane of subjects is enthralling and immensely satisfying”. He particularly enjoys photographing rust (‘rustscapes’), and small plants.

All of the pictures in this gallery have been shot without the use of a tripod (“far too restrictive!”) which gives him the freedom to get very close to the subjects - many of these images were only a few centimetres in width.
