Artists in Woodstock is a community of creative people based in Woodstock and the surrounding villages. We are artists of all kinds – painters, ceramicists, sculptors, photographers, jewellery makers and collage artists. We are a super inclusive group, and constantly welcome new members.
Our purpose is to connect our community through creativity. Bringing creative people together, to share ideas and encourage one another. But also to connect with the broader community, to celebrate the role that creativity can play in enhancing lives.
Exhibiting
The group was founded in 2022 when Caroline Parkes, a Woodstock based amateur painter, wanted to exhibit for the first time, with a group of other artists, so set about finding like minded people who wanted to exhibit together.
In 2023 we did just that, on a grand scale! For Artweeks 2023 we took over Woodstock town centre’s windows and had 17 artists displaying work in St Mary Magdalene Church. Our novel approach attracted press coverage including being featured in BBC Radio Oxford, OxInABox and Cotswold Life. And in September, we had our first exhibition at Blenheim Palace, where 22 artists displayed work across 4 months that was seen by a quarter of a million visitors.
Joining
We are inclusive and informal in equal measure! Anyone who lives or works in Woodstock, or the surrounding villages, is welcome to join. We hold informal get togethers, and use WhatsApp to communicate, throughout the year. And we provide opportunities for our members to participate in local exhibitions. Oxfordshire Artweeks is our big annual event, where a participation fee is involved, but currently our membership is free. If you’d like to become a member, please do drop us a line.
